Brainstorming and basic planning

• Make a list of as many different situations, etc. where a female character may be able to challenge social attitudes towards women. Remember we talked about a number yesterday but there would be hundreds of others (either real-life or imaginary) that you come up with. • Make a list of as many different settings your story could take place. Again, they could be real or imagined. • Make a list of what times your story could be set in. E.g. Past, present, future. • Start to refine your lists so that you can work towards a clear idea for your eventual story. • Once you have refined the lists to a central idea, you could start to develop your female protagonist.

Beginning thoughts for the short story task

Hi girls,

Now that we have seen the task sheet for the short story assignment, we need to think about what the parameters of the task are asking us to consider.

If the task asks you to develop a story around a "female character [who] is able to challenge social views towards women" with "no limitations as to where and when you choose to set your story" what are some possiblilities that you can devise that would suit this task?

Before you can truly answer this, you need to consider what we mean by a female character challenging social views towards women.

Short Story Task Sheet

The short story task is now available on Blackboard under the asignments folder.

You will receive a hard copy next term but we will be going through the task sheet in class tomorrow.

Short Story Preparation

For the past two weeks we have spent a considerable amount of time getting used to the idea of writing creatively.

As you work towards the creation of your short story, make sure that you take the time to practise your writing and to plan effectively. There are a wide variety of resources available to you on Blackboard that you should aim to utilise.

The creative writing tasks that we have been doing in class (like the speed writing at the beginning of lessons) can be incredibly helpful when you get writer's block so make sure you add these to your writer's tool belt!

You are all showing a lot of potential throughout the exercises we have been doing in class girls so make sure that you have faith in your own abilities as we move towards the next task.
